Our client is seeking to hire a senior editor to lead their expanding Asia coverage, focusing on relationships within the region and with the wider world. The ideal candidate to be their Asia Editor would have a deep knowledge of the diverse political and economic landscapes of countries in the region.

The role offers an opportunity to lead coverage of major news developments across Asia in a way that explains the nuances and unique contexts of individual societies for a global audience. You will lead a high-performing team of correspondents, copy editors and a network of contributors across the region, driving the news agenda daily and assigning in-depth features for our award-winning Sunday magazine, This Week In Asia. The Asia Editor will operate from their headquarters in Hong Kong but may allow exceptional candidates to be based for extended periods in certain capitals, such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok.

Responsibilities:

• Drive the news agenda for our Asia coverage through meticulous planning and close coordination with other Editorial teams
• Develop and deliver on strategies to grow coverage and readership across Asia and globally
• Use analytical tools to ensure the right stories are delivered in a timely way in the right formats to the right audiences
• Editing, checking facts, rewriting and improving copy with care and sensitivity; ensuring copy is error-free and has the relevant context for our global readership; crafting top-notch SEO and social headlines; ensuring all stories have the appropriate, accurate and eye-catching visual elements

Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a real-time online news operation, a wire service or a newspaper is essential
• Expertise in Asian regional economics, politics and/or diplomatic fields is necessary
• Proven track record of news and team leadership, with experience reporting from an Asian country
• Experience with print production helpful for publishing our Sunday magazine
